December 19, 2023 tedisel bed head units, Hospitals, Medical equipment

“We believe in environments that not only heal but also comfort and protect.”

Innovation in Hospital and Ward Design

Hospital design goes far beyond simple aesthetics. Hospital architecture has evolved by understanding the vital role that the environment plays in the recovery and well-being of patients.

It is therefore essential that the design of clinics and hospitals be innovative, creating spaces that not only ensure safety and comfort but also facilitate the work of healthcare professionals.

The impact of interior design in clinics and healthcare areas has undergone remarkable transformations in recent years. In the past, the focus of medical clinic design was primarily on functionality. While this remains crucial, equal importance is now given to generating well-being for users.

Recently, the design of hospital environments has been oriented toward eliminating the coldness and lack of personality associated with these places. Instead, priority is given to creating welcoming and friendly spaces that are at the same time safe and functional.

Optimizing the Hospital Environment: A Compassionate Approach to Patient and Medical Staff Care

Technology and ergonomics in operating rooms: an integrated approach to safety and efficiency

August 4, 2023 tedisel Operating Rooms, Software, suspended columns, technical panel

Ergonomics in operating room equipment is key to preventing injuries, improving efficiency, and promoting physician and patient safety.

The surgical environment is one of the most demanding and critical places in the area of medicine, with precision and efficiency being two cornerstones of the success of any medical procedure. In this context, ergonomics arises to adapt the work environment to the needs and capacities of health professionals, improving the design and operation of equipment in modern operating rooms.

Their goal is to improve comfort, prevent injury, increase efficiency, and promote safety for medical personnel and patients.

Ergonomics in operating room equipment is key to preventing injuries, improving efficiency, and promoting physician and patient safety

Innovative tools for smart operating rooms

When talking about ergonomics in operating rooms, aspects such as space distribution and control interfaces must be considered. Below we address some key elements in this matter.

Injury prevention and safety of medical personnel

Surgical procedures often involve long hours of work in uncomfortable and repetitive positions. This can lead to musculoskeletal disorders such as back, neck and hand injuries.

Applying ergonomics in the design of the operating room can significantly reduce this type of injury. Thus, among the most common measures are the adjustable height of surgical tables, the use of ergonomic seats or the strategic placement of equipment and supplies.

In addition, in terms of safety, ergonomics can contribute to reducing the risk of nosocomial infections, facilitating cleaning and disinfection of the surgical environment.

Innovative tools for smart operating rooms

Efficiency and productivity in the operating room

A well-organized and designed operating room streamlines workflow, reduces time searching for equipment and supplies, and facilitates communication among the medical team.

On the other hand, the use of suitable ergonomic instruments improves the surgeon’s dexterity and precision, generating a positive impact on the results of surgeries.

For example, the proper arrangement of surgical lights and monitors provide optimal visibility. Likewise, the choice of ergonomic instruments such as forceps and scissors that adapt to the hand, improve dexterity and reduce the surgeon’s fatigue during an operation.

More safety and well-being for the patient

Ergonomics benefits medical staff and has an impact on the quality of patient care. When the medical team works in a comfortable and efficient environment, the margin for error is reduced and concentration and focus on the patient is improved.

The truth is that the less fatigued and more comfortable the health workers feel, the more alert and attentive to details they will be, reducing the risk of accidents and errors.

A well-organized and designed operating room streamlines workflow, reduces time searching for equipment and supplies, and facilitates communication among the medical team

The most advanced technology

Ergonomics in operating room equipment is also based on the use of advanced technology and state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Ergonomic operating rooms are designed to efficiently integrate modern medical devices -such as Columns and Technical Panels-, taking advantage of technological advances to improve precision and safety in surgeries.

The Diamond glass panel, for example, centralizes all the necessary visual elements in an operating room or critical area. It is compatible with PACS, nursing station and software control. And Q Panel is our reference model in operating rooms, known for its Corian surface and its adaptability in terms of size and components.

Hospital engineering: a growing discipline

Hospital engineering combines engineering, architecture and medicine in order to improve efficiency and safety, comfort for patients and healthcare staff.

In recent decades, great advances have been made globally, always with the focus on the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies in the design, construction and equipment of hospitals. Modern hospitals are designed for today and tomorrow by maximising efficiency in patient care through the use of state-of-the-art materials, devices and technologies. We are talking about cleaning systems, living comfort, operating theatres, etc.

In particular, advanced medical equipment, such as CT scans and MRIs, the promotion of information technologies (ICT) and the development of new materials and designs/aesthetics of medical devices, such as technical panels, columns, headboards… In our case, we are manufacturers of hospital equipment for hospitalisation areas, critical areas and surgical block for public and private hospitals all over the world.

These elements are particularly noteworthy in helping to improve the patient experience and complete more comfortable and accessible facilities, adopting a holistic approach to medical care.

Unstoppable progress

Going into more detail, some of the most recent developments in this area include:

  • Information and communication technologies (ICT): Hospitals are increasingly connected for better information management and efficient decision-making.
  • Tracking and monitoring systems: Enabling faster and more accurate care in case of emergency through telemedicine and interconnectivity thanks to wearables, home health gadgets and other elements.
  • Automation systems: Automation systems, such as robots and medical devices with Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, are helping to reduce the number of human errors and increase efficiency in hospitals.
  • Cutting-edge equipment: There is a firm commitment to bring cutting-edge hospital equipment to hospitals, always with the study, ergonomic design and efficiency of the work areas for the comfort of the patient, the medical team and the technical service.

The greatest challenges in hospital engineering

Beyond the advances and progress that we can see, we also find challenges, obstacles and barriers in hospital engineering, such as:

  • Lack of access to quality health care services in rural and low-income areas.
  • Lack of funding and rising cost of health care
  • The paradigm shift to sustainability
  • Problems in integrating and implementing new technologies
  • Challenges of security, cybersecurity and access to information with the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)
  • Balancing efficiency and quality

The top five technology trends in healthcare in 2022

February 23, 2023 tedisel Medical equipment

Analysing the past to understand the present and glimpse the future. In this new blog post we want to address the most important technological trends in healthcare in 2022.

Cutting-edge technology for medical equipment is here to stay, as we can see in Tedisel Medical’s portfolio, and both in the healthcare field and in other sectors it is clear that the use of artificial intelligence or data analysis to predict situations and make decisions is going to be part of our daily lives.

What are the healthcare technology trends that have stood out in 2022?

In 2022, a HIMSS Future of Healthcare report revealed that 80% of healthcare providers plan to increase investment in technology and digital solutions in the next five years, a fact that highlights the importance that technological tools are gaining in the sector.

Top five technology trends in healthcare in 2022

1. Digitisation of healthcare

If there is one thing we have seen with the pandemic, it is that healthcare is also becoming increasingly digital, thanks to virtual visits, mobile applications, etc.

In any case, the digital transformation of the healthcare sector is booming and goes far beyond the use of mobile applications to attend to patients, although, as we shall see, this is one of the most basic options for digitising healthcare.

2. Health apps and telemedicine

The HIIMS report estimates that the use of mobile apps to manage certain health conditions will increase over the next three to five years and that, in a changing healthcare landscape, health systems will need to identify areas where they can excel and focus on them, as 40% of all health system leaders surveyed said they expect high competition with large technology companies, including Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft.

3. Automating tasks with artificial intelligence

The goal here is to free up patient care by automating routine tasks with artificial intelligence (AI), to avoid stress and burnout for professionals.

Especially in complex imaging modalities such as CT and MRI, AI-based technology can make it easier for technicians to plan and execute routine examinations, helping them get images right the first time with greater confidence and accuracy.

4. Big data and predictive analytics

Healthcare leaders facing unexpected surges in patient demand are increasingly looking to increase their ability to anticipate and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. This is done with data. This often comes from the daily management of patient flow, which helps, through the use of Machine Learning technology, to predict analytics, optimise operations, etc.

5. Digital care and remote monitoring

According to the aforementioned study, around 90% of health systems plan to offer digital-first primary care and remote patient monitoring in the next five years. In fact, nearly half of US health systems said they anticipate being able to offer digital specialised care in five years, compared to about 20% today.

How does technology improve patient and health system outcomes?

Technology applied to the healthcare environment, also known as e-health, is set to optimally transform the way doctors and patients interact and how professionals make decisions.

The five technological trends in healthcare in 2022 stand out not only for being innovative, but also for improving the patient experience, facilitating the work of healthcare professionals and, therefore, improving healthcare, reducing costs, minimising errors, etc.

The momentum of healthcare technology in 2023: what advances do we expect?

New technological advances are gaining increasing presence in the provision of healthcare services, offering benefits for professionals and managers as well as for patients.

With the main objective being to improve the quality of care and disease prevention, outstanding technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), more reliable and accessible 3D bioprinting, smart implants, the increase in wearable devices and apps within the framework of the internet of medical things (IoMT), and the integration of big data and its analysis in healthcare systems, will be real pillars of hospital technology in 2023.
